InfraMed : 2012’s ME Infrastructure Fund Manager

InfraMed was named second best Middle East Infrastructure Fund Manager of the Year (2012) by Infrastructure Investor magazine.

During 2012, InfraMed realised three investments in Turkey, Egypt and Jordan. InfraMed acquired a 20% stake in a 36-year concession to operate Iskenderun Port located in Turkey’s Eastern Mediterranean shore. The Port is an operational general cargo port which, following the new capital investment plan, will include a modern container terminal with annual capacity in excess of 1.3 million twenty-foot equivalent units. The Project’s total costs are estimated at US$783m. InfraMed’s partner in the transaction is Limak Yatirim, Turkey’s leading infrastructure investor with a preeminent portfolio of projects including the Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul.

InfraMed also invested US$100m in the Egyptian Refining Company through an SPV; Orient. ERC is a 4.7MT (approximately 88,000 barrels per day) greenfield high tech refinery facility that will convert heavy fuel oil, known as Atmospheric Residue into light distillate products, predominantly diesel. Other Key CO-Investors and Developers in the ERC Project include: Citadel Capital (Lead developer), Qatar Petroleum International (QPI), IFC and DEG.

During the year 2012, InfraMed became a 50% shareholder in the SPV developing the Tafila greenfield wind farm project in Jordan via a joint-venture agreement with EP Global Energy Ltd, an experienced Cyprus-based developer of renewable energy projects in emerging markets. Once completed, Tafila will be the first and largest privately financed wind farm in Jordan targeting a total installed capacity of 114MW at an initial stage, with the potential to reach 300 MW in the near to medium term. The Project’s total costs are estimated at approximately US$300m.

With this recognition, InfraMed confirms its commitment to promoting, within a market environment, equity investments in urban, energy, and transport infrastructure projects as well as to supporting the development of the infrastructures on the Southern and Eastern shores of the Mediterranean.
